Compared to road vehicles, purpose-built racecars are few and far between. This could be attributed to the hobbyist nature of the racecar community, unlike the mass-marketed road vehicles. Elemental Cars is a brand new startup that aims to offer an alternative for race car enthusiasts. The British company is founded by talented individuals from the automotive industry, headed by John Begley who has worked at McLaren F1 team, Nissan, Triple Eight touring cars, and was involved in the design of McLaren Mercedes’ SLR, 12C, and P1 models. Wanting to make a lightweight performance car for the tracks, Begley invited skilled friends and colleagues to join his company. The RP1 is scheduled to be equipped with a Ford Ecoboost 2-liter engine, and 6-speed sequential racing gearbox, making around 280 bhp.
