In launching the S-Works McLaren Tarmac -- the successor to the 2011's Venge -- Specialized took advantage of McLaren's "Rider First” data collection system, which means customers who place an order for the £16,000 / $20,000 USD bike are first brought into a dealer for a Body Geometry Fit consultation. The process gets the rider a bespoke setup with the perfect frame size and handlebar/saddle width, stem length, and ideally tuned crank size. In terms of performance features, Specialized spared no expense, using a carbon frame construction optimized with proprietary software that McLaren developed for its F1, Super, and Hypercar designs, resulting in weight reduction between 9 and 11 percent depending on frame size. The Roval wheels have been refined as well, outfitted with tubular carbon rims reworked to drop 30g from the overall weight, while the hubs have ceramic speed bearings to reduce friction loss. Even the paint gets McLaren's supercar treatment, featuring a fine metallic tint embedded within both the "Tarmac" black and McLaren's signature orange. Prevail helmet and road shoes in matching designs come with the bike. Limited to just 250 units, the Specialized S-Works McLaren Tarmac is available by registering at the Specialized site.
