Though most people knew him as the first “Style VJ” on MTV, Coltrane Curtis was actually the Editor-at-Large for Complex Magazine at one time. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Curtis helped to facilitate marketing campaigns for the likes of 50 Cent, Eminem, Michael Rapaport, Mos Def and Timbaland through his tenure at ECKO.
Already known as a consummate collector of sneakers, who once listed his collection of 1200 pairs (valued at $40,000) for sale, Curtis also collects old school Motorola Star TAC phones, sunglasses, and timepieces. But these are more than just showcases of material wealth. Each of the items has a value more than its cost. Take something simple like his Team Epiphany fitted cap by New Era, a nod to the marketing agency he established with wife Lisa Chu and fellow influencer Sky Gellatly. There is also the Bell & Ross BR 01 in Rose Gold, the first luxury watch he bought and a symbolic gesture that he finally “Made It”.
