Having designed and manufactured the original moon boots worn by the Apollo Missions' astronauts, General Electric (GE) knows a thing or two about footwear designs. With the 45th Anniversary of the First Moon Landing approaching this Sunday, the multinational conglomerate partnered with flash sale site JackThreads and LA-based Android Homme to create a “moon boot” for the everyday. Dubbed at “The Missions”, the futuristic looking sneaker features large carbon fiber upper for support, a special water-resistant coating, thermoplastic molded ankle collars and outsoles. Accentuated by 3M reflective materials and overlays in metallic silver throughout, embossed numerals of “1969” along the heel panels to mark the year of when Neil A. Armstrong and Edwin E. "Buzz" Aldrin, Jr. first set foot on the lunar surface.
Limited to 100 pairs only, the GE x JackThreads x Android Homme “The Missions” retails for $196.90 USD and will be exclusively available via JackThreads this Sunday, July 20th, at 4:18 pm EST, the time when Apollo 11’s “Eagle” Lunar Module touched down on the Moon.
