Since his debut presentation at New York Fashion Week in 2010, Daisuke Obana of N.HOOLYWOOD has shown an ardent appreciation for vintage Americana. Previous collections were marked with densely layered concepts featuring a singular thematic through-line, whether it was Amelia Earhart, Ernest Hemingway or the photos of Ansel Adams. His vision for Spring/Summer 2015 — presented yesterday during day 3 of NYFW — took on a refreshingly personal approach, showcasing the kind of pieces that Obana himself would wear. The upshot was a collection interspersed with both street and sportswear elements, easy-going yet studious. There were graphic tees, unstructured blazers and relaxed knit sweaters. A distinctive digital camouflage print covered lightweight jackets, crewneck tops and cuffed trousers, while large insect graphics conveyed a natural element to play off the synthetic fabrics. The collection was of the times yet distinctively timeless at once, leading to the hope of future presentations imbued with a similarly personal touch.
