Vault by Vans will be showcasing the intricate artistry of the Huichol tribe with the impending Vault by Vans x Huichol capsule collection, featuring beautifully handcrafted renditions of the Classic Slip-On LX and Sk8-Hi LX, both made in limited quantities.
In the mountainous regions of Jalisco and Nayarit In Mexico, the Huichol have continued to live much as they have from a simpler time, largely isolated from the modern world while retaining their native language and customs throughout the centuries. Their artwork is known for their yarn paintings, embroidery and beadwork, all of which are celebrated by Vans through this upcoming collection. The Huichol tribe embellished Vans’ iconic lace-free and high-top silhouettes with handmade detailing, creating elaborately embroidered and beaded footwear pieces over a 10-month process. Embroidered by hand, the checkerboard Slip-On is a wearable piece of cultural art, highlighting an exceptional yarn painting technique on each set of uppers. The Sk8-Hi, meanwhile, showcases hand-beaded sidestripe overlays and an ankle pendant atop premium suede materials.
Limited to 360 pairs globally, the Vault by Vans x Huichol capsule is scheduled to launch September 20th at select boutique accounts, including the Vans DQM General New York and Boston, Blends, Bodega, Conveyor, Darkside Initiative, Opening Ceremony, Proper and St. Alfred. Retail is set at $150 USD for the Classic Slip-On LX and $180 for the Sk8-Hi LX.
