Call it a Bug on steroids. A Franken-Bettle. A Monster. Whatever you want to go with this latest Volkswagen Beetle GRC is one insect you don't want to mess with because it will mess with you back. Pumping out 544-hp, this Beetle is tuned for competition in the Global Rallycross (GRC), which begins this weekend at the Port of Los Angeles under the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team flag with two entrants. To get here, the VW has undergone a range of modifications, beginning with a wider stance, new aerodynamic components, a new suspension, a huge rear wing, and side scoops. Its 4-cylinder 1.6-liter TSI turbocharged engine delivers power to an all-wheel drive system down to 17-inch alloy wheels via a 6-speed sequential transmission. All told, the Beetle GRC can hit 60mph in 2.1 seconds. Yes, 2.1. See this Beetle gone mad for yourself in the preview shots and video after the jump.
