For its latest collaborative project, Hanon is teaming up with sister brands ASICS and Onitsuka Tiger, connecting those brands' Japanese origins with the retailer's Scottish roots by paying tribute to Thomas Glover, the Aberdeenshire native who traveled to Japan in the mid-19th century as a shipping merchant trading in green tea. Glover would go on to supply the rebelling samurai clans with Scottish designed ships and modern arms, as well as introduce the first steam train in Japan, for which he would be hailed as a national hero.
The Scottish side of the collection takes the form of the ASICS Gel Epirus, featuring mint green suede and purple nubuck overlays, plus Scottish thistle embossed on the heel and Hanon's flame logo on the tongue. Onitsuka's Colorado Eighty-Five, meanwhile, is executed in perforated suede, nubuck and synthetic overlays, finished in a black and gold colorway and featuring a number of special features: a speckled lace stay and screened in-sock symbolizing Glover's trade in tea, his iconic mustache embossed on the heel, and a silver collar lining giving the nod to the role he played in Japan's industrial revolution.
Look for the Hanon x ASICS x Onitsuka Tiger "Glover Pack" to launch September 27th at Hanon, both in-store and online.
