Warner Bros. has unveiled the official trailer for director Paul Thomas Anderson's highly anticipated Inherent Vice, based on Thomas Pynchon's 2009 novel of the same name. Joaquin Phoenix stars as private eye Doc Sportello, who's at the center of this psychedelic detective story set in Los Angeles at the tail end of the '60s. Circling the mutton-chopped investigator are a constellation of familiar faces, including Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Josh Brolin and Martin Short. The trailer indicates a radical departure for Anderson, who's seemingly left behind his atmospheric dramas There Will Be Blood and The Master for a high-energy romp in the vein of his breakthrough 1997 film, Boogie Nights. Check out the trailer below, and look for Inherent Vice to hit theaters December 12, 2014.
