Designers RJW Elsinga and Alrik Koudenburg have again worked together to design a new headquarters for the digital design agency JWT located in Amsterdam. While they can't account for the technology issues and client problems that are inevitable time-wasters at every company, a drop in employee productivity cannot be attributed to poor office design. Using not-so-subtle design cues and in-your-face motivational language and imagery, JWT's new office is, as the designers put it, "an upbeat and positive environment" that fits the agency's mantra of mimics an "inspirational garden where one can wander around and get lost in thought." Embodying the "Do" aspect of the piece of the company's mantra, a city-like graffiti filled atmosphere was created to plan and collaborate while the "Make" portion of the space is a "creative toolbox" to get the job done. So much for office politics.
