Along with the iPad 2, Apple today announced the new iPad mini 3, which at first blush is almost identical to the iPad mini with Retina display that was released last year. The differences on this latest 7.9-inch tablet take the form of a Touch ID home button, and like its iPad Air 2 counterpart, iOS 8.1 and a new gold finish. Otherwise, the song remains the same: the iPad mini 3 still features last year's A7 chipset and M7 coprocessor, as well as the same camera. It starts at $399 and will be available online tomorrow. Keep in mind that new release means a price drop for the iPad mini 2 and original iPad mini: Apple will continue to sell both generations with a $100 saving on the mini 2 (16GB for $299 and 32GB for $349) and a $150 saving on the mini (16GB for $249).
