With a thickness of only 6.1 mm, or 18% thinner than the first iPad Air introduced just a year ago, Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, introduced the new iPad Air 2 earlier this afternoon. At a special press event on Apple’s Cupertino corporate campus, Phil Schiller, SVP of Worldwide Marketing, dissected the technical specs such as how engineers were able to make the iPad Air 2 thinner by simply fusing the three display components into one. Now with the new A8X processor, a 2nd generation 64-bit chip, iPad Air 2 is about 40% faster than its predecessor and generates 12x more processing power than the very first iPad. This means it can easily replace any desktop computers in terms of everyday usage.
Quipped with two new cameras, including the new 8 Megapixel iSight camera capable of 3264-by-2448 resolution and creative functions like time-lapse video, 120 fps slow-motion, burst mode, timer mode, exposure control, Apple also added Touch ID to help you secure your new iPad Air 2. Price range starts at $499 USD for 16GB version, $599 USD for 64GB, $699 USD for 128GB, with an addition of $130 on each model for the WiFi + Cellular version, the new Apple iPad Air 2 comes in Silver, Gold and Space Gray colorways. All are available for sale starting tomorrow, October 17th.
