The story of the founding of Obey Clothing is one for the books. Founded on the art, design, and ideals of Shepard Fairey, the brand exploded just like the popularity of his first sticker created in 1989, which itself expanded into a worldwide street art movement. The label was formed in 2001 and aligns with his populist views and his iconography in self-empowerment, utilizing his own brand of reverse psychology that is behind the Obey name. As with his usual collections, this "Worldwide Series" is based heavily on work wear basics influenced by classic military design and were created with a nod toward the "Obey Posse" that spans the globe. Comprised of tees and headwear, the particular graphics focus on the city of Milan, where the collection will be exclusively available along with several select Obey retailers, including the Graffiti Shop.
