It's been nearly 15 years since R&B star D'Angelo released his last album, Voodoo. Rumors of its highly anticipated followup started circulating around 2005, and after countless rumors and false starts -- including tales of addiction and panic attacks, as well as a notorious mug shot in 2010 that revealed the crooner had packed on a few pounds -- D'Angelo's new album Black Messiah is finally out, having launched at midnight last night on iTunes and Spotify. In a written statement distributed to attendees at an exclusive listening party in NYC, D'Angelo explained why he chose the provocative title: "Some will jump to the conclusion that I’m calling myself a Black Messiah. For me, the title is about all of us. It’s about the world. It’s about an idea we can all aspire to. We should all aspire to be a Black Messiah." Grab it on iTunes now, or stream it below.
