With great sadness (and anticipation), we bring you news that Marvel Comics has officially announced the end of the Marvel Universe that started way back in 1961. Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso and Senior Vice President of Publishing and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort have said that when they begin Secret Wars No. 1, the Marvel Universe, Ultimate Universe and all others will cease to exist. Moving forward, it will all be "Battleworld". Unsurprisingly, this new world will be massive, with Brevoort himself calling it "by far the craziest thing [he's] dealt with". Stan Lee (the man, the legend) called it "good" saying, "Anything they do that’s unexpected and different usually captures the attention of the fans. People will want to follow it to see what happens and where it will lead. Marvel cannot keep doing the same stories over and over again. You always have to come up with new angles and new approaches to things. I think it’s probably a good idea. It sounds intriguing to me." It's the end of an era but fans, old and new, can look forward to a new generation of stories. Plus, if it's good enough for Stan Lee, it should be good enough for you.
