The Air Jordan VII (7) Retro set to release today, is not just another weekly Jordan Retro release. On the heels of an announcement last summer that the Jordan Retro program would be retooled, the Jordan Remastered series emerged. The first release was the Air Jordan IV (4) Retro in early January. And, according to MJ himself, the quality of the releases from the Remastered series meets the standards he expects from the kicks that bear his name.
The “French Blue” colorway has not released since December, 2002, when it dropped on the same day as another colorway of the 7s. It’s clean upper and straightforward styling has made it a highly collectible model of a silhouette, which will see more colorways this year. The inner lining features a jagged design of blues and grays, and is slightly different on each foot. This tongue design differs a bit from the 2002 French Blue model, which Jordan actually as a member of the Washington Wizards in a road game against the New Jersey Nets.
For the Remastered series, each release promises an upgrade to many facets of the sneaker. The most noticeable change in quality for the Air Jordan VII (7) is in the quality of the leather. Tumbled leather appears throughout the upper on the upcoming “French Blue” release, along with embossed lace tips. Details like the shape of the jumpman have also been re-tooled, as this release features a noticeable spread hand and the tongue of the shoes on the feet of the Jumpman, which in recent retros had not been as visible. This attention to detail is what the Retro program has ensured Jordan wearers for 2015--a quality shoe that doesn’t skimp on the details.
Another promise from the Remastered series is more faithful renderings of the original silhouette of the models. A recurring complaint from Jordan enthusiasts has been the toe shape of many models looking more bloated. The French Blue 7s coming out this Saturday, have apparently done a much better job making the shoe look as streamlined as the originals which dropped all the way back in 1992. If you want to add a fresh looking piece of history to your collection, make sure to grab your pair when they release on Saturday, January 24th.
