Emerging in the ’80s with a class of heralded Japanese designers including Issey Miyake and Rei Kawakubo of COMME des GARÇONS, Yohji Yamamoto continues to wield considerable influence in the global fashion firmament. His Fall/Winter 2015 men’s presentation at Paris Fashion Week was a showcase for his aesthetic signatures: loose-fitting silhouettes, layered looks and deconstructed fabrications, though this time around the garments bordered on unfinished. There were raw edges and mismatched panels stitched together, and the scars of the sartorial abuse were reflected in literal fashion on the models’ faces. While not a radical departure from Yohji’s enduring vision, the collection was another subtle step in the evolution of a designer with remarkable staying power.
