The Maison Margiela design team appeared torn with the presentation of their Fall/Winter 2015 collection in Paris. After all, an unexpected and very glam ’70s theme was present in the glittery knits, floral trousers and leather peacoats. It was a strange move for a house not typically known for specific period references, leading some to whisper that incoming designer John Galliano was already wielding his creative influence. The lack of focus was reinforced with beautifully tailored pieces, including a taupe double-breasted suit worn underneath a tonal overcoat. And even though the sartorial narrative didn’t exactly cohere, the craftsmanship on display was unmistakably Margiela.
