In 2001, Kevin Durant lost his beloved Aunt Pearl to lung cancer and since that day, Durant has promised to keep her memory alive. Durant has said before that his Aunt Pearl taught him to hold his head high and carry himself with humble confidence; a mentality that has driven everything he has done since. To help Durant capture her elegance and continue to honor her memory ten years since her passing, Durant has partnered with Nike designer Leo Chang to take the angel tattoo on his back and scale into his signature Nike model, ultimately creating a beautiful tribute to her life. What Chang produced is a sneaker with a unique level of artistry, including a three-dimensional angel wing strap, a print of the actual tattoo on the inside of the tongue, and wing pattern detailing on both the gold Swoosh logos. The colorway itself is a subtle, pearl white that is both a nod toward the official color of lung cancer awareness and also a way to draw your eye toward the pink Kay Yow Cancer Fund logo and accents. The KD7 Aunt Pearl shoe and a coordinating t-shirt, hat, and socks will release on February 19 at Nike.com and at select retail locations around the world.
