Legendary hip hop group De La Soul released their debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising in 1988. Their music spoke to a generation about freedom and creativity in expression and continues to influence artists, producers and skaters today. They laid the groundwork that made way for much of the rap music we know today. Just around the same time, in 1985, Nike introduced their Dunk silhouette. It quickly became a staple within the skate community and was reborn in 2002 as the Nike Dunk SB. Both De La Soul and the Dunk are icons in their own fields come together beautifully for a collection featuring two unique sneakers.
In 2005, an unlikely partnership came about in the De La Soul Nike Dunk Hi and Lo project. Before a concert in San Diego, the group walked by a Nike SB booth at a convention and invited the reps to the show. Afterwards, they were asked backstage if they'd be interested in collaborating. It was as simple as that. Ten years later, what is widely considered to be one of the best Nike Dunk SB designs to date makes a triumphant return. The white leather and graphic print of the Dunk Lo comes back as a Dunk Hi silhouette and the daisy-age pattern and elephant-print emboss of the original Hi is given to a Dunk Lo. The Nike SB x De La Soul Collection is available now on the Nike Sneaker App and will see a global release tomorrow, February 13.
