As divisive and polarizing as the man himself, Kanye West's menswear collection for adidas -- unveiled yesterday at New York Fashion Week -- will have its champions and detractors alike. While we debate the aesthetic merits of the nascent collection, Kanye's own insight into his design inspiration is surprisingly straightforward and utilitarian; maybe even populist. His goal, he says, was to relieve the burden of indecision brought about by an excess of choice. He would do this by creating a line of high-quality essentials that could be combined in myriad ways, "like Legos." A versatile, stripped down and unpretentious collection was Kanye's objective, which explains the neutral color palette, military air and comfortable fabrics. Judge for yourself and check out the pieces below.
