Always on the cutting edge of the design spear, Nike looks to be expanding their tool-kit into the world of virtual reality. Awarded over 500 patents in 2013 alone, one of the stars of the set is the concept of bringing virtual reality to NIKEiD where a user can take an actual blank replica sneaker and customize it with the full repertoire of Swoosh patterns, prints, and designs in real-time thanks to a set of virtual reality goggles. It’s much like the process today, where users can do 360-degree customization, but with instantaneous interaction in the palm of your hand. Whether this is going to make it to stores or just stay in Nike HQ for use by in-house designers, the concept is killer.
