Tom Sachs - "Boombox Retrospective 1999 - 2015" at The Contemporary Austin

Famous for his irreverent takes on consumer culture, New York-based artist Tom Sachs is the subject of a new exhibition running at The Contemporary Austin in Texas. Dubbed Boombox Retrospective 1999 - 2015, the show is made up of an immersive, interactive collection of sculptures and found objects, all revolving around the boombox. the "1980s pre-iPod, hip-hop street badge of honor, and a nod to Sachs’s love of the genre." The exhibition is jointly displayed at the Jones Center -- highlighted by a series of working ceramic boomboxes and curated playlists from pop icons (Kanye West among them) and the Laguna Gloria, featurnig two large-scale oratory speakers, a bronze battery tower and an interactive bodega. The exhibition will run until April 19.
