This morning at a press even in New York City — conducted simultaneously with similar events in London and Munich — DJI officially announced the launch of its latest Phantom quadcopter, which we examined here earlier today. The Phantom 3 was described as “the most revolutionary consumer quadcopter in history,” featuring new dedicated camera controls making it easier to maneuver, as well as live video view streams in 720p high-definition from up to a mile away. (A convenient integration with YouTube means users an also stream live video footage directly to the Internet.) For newbies, the new flight remote features an automatic “return to home” function that allows users to get out of scrapes with the simple press of of a button. Additionally, updates to the Android and iOS app now include a flight simulator, letting those new pilots get in some practice time before they embark on actual flights.
