MINI will take to the Auto Shanghai show to unveil a new product they’ve dubbed Augmented Vision. The eyewear concept may resemble steampunk goggles, but they’re actually a pair of augmented reality glasses, featuring a design developed by Designworks for MINI, and technologies created in collaboration with various Qualcomm companies. The glasses will display relevant information to the wearer’s direct field of vision, with the data including destination navigation, miles traveled and augmented parking, in which the view from a camera on the far-side mirror is projected to the goggles so that distance to the curb is easily ascertained. There’s also navigation arrows to identify points of interest on your route, along with traditional heads up display functions including speed and speed limits. Finally, X-ray view offers a virtual perspective through parts of the vehicle like A-pillars and doors that are not usually visible. Stay tuned for pricing and availability.
