The drone market is about to get even hotter with the release of the 3D Robotics Solo. Joining the market-shifting DJI Phantom 3 Drone, 3D Robotics is releasing what they call the world's first "Smart Drone," which takes a lot of the complexities out of flying the device, ultimately giving users more time to focus on shooting professional-grade aerial video. Using two Linux computers and GoPro cameras, the Solo controls the shot via an attached camera gimbal with full controls integrated into the hand-held controller. The Solo also uses "advanced autonomy" to make capturing a great shot easier, letting the software do the hard work, complete with programmable and preset flight routes. The Solo will also be one of the first drones to launch at retailers around the world, beginning on May 31, with a base price of $999.
