With one of the biggest archives in the industry and one of the best automotive museums in the world, it's hard to believe that Mercedes-Benz didn't realize earlier the gem that it had waiting the wings. Found hidden in their warehouse back in 2001, it wasn't until three years ago that they decided to rebuild the 1938 540 K Streamliner, documenting every step in the process. The end result is a 45 minute documentary that shows the evolution of the Streamliner from a forgotten relic to a speed machine hitting 115mph on the Autobahn. Recreated with the help of Italian craftsman, its hand built aluminum body is as period correct as you can get it, complete with the original set of Dunlop tires that lets this ship hit top speeds even as it pushes 80 years old.
