We took an initial look at the MINI John Cooper Works hatchback here, ahead of its debut in January at NAIAS in Detroit, and now the vehicle gets a starring role in a new promotional video from the British automaker. Described as the most powerful production MINI ever made, the MINI John Cooper Works hatch hits the track, where a professional driver shows off its nimbleness and power, thanks to the sports-tuned suspension and 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine, good for 228 bhp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Connected to a choice of standard six-speed manual gearbox, the motor enables a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of 6.3 seconds (0.2 seconds slower than the optional six-speed Steptronic sports transmission). The top speed for either is rated at 53 mph. Check out the video below, and look for the car to hit U.S. showrooms this spring with an asking price starting at $30,600.
