Today saw President Obama making an appearance at Nike‘s World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. Addressing hundreds of Nike workers assembled for the event, the President delivered a speech promoting the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a 12-nation trade pact potentially offering footwear tariff relief for the Swoosh. That would allow Nike to accelerate investment in advanced footwear manufacturing here in the United States, resulting in the creation of 10,000 new manufacturing and engineering jobs,as well as thousands of construction jobs and up to 40,000 indirect supply chain and service jobs over a period of 10 years. Mark Parker, President and CEO of Nike, addressed the crowd as well. “We commend President Obama for his strong leadership to advance these important trade initiatives,” said Parker. “Our employees and our business depend on free trade and the ability to reach athletes and consumers around the world.”
