Following last month’s teaser, Nike has officially taken the wraps off the Nike KD8, the latest signature sneaker for Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant. Designer Leo Chang once again worked closely with Durant, and the result is a low-top that features two technical firsts in a Nike Basketball shoe: a Flyweave upper and an articulated full-length Zoom Air unit. Among the benefits, the Flyweave textile functions like a second skin and can also be designed in high resolution, down to the pixel, for the rigors of basketball footwork. Flywire cables act in tandem with the material to deliver a lockdown fit. Underneath, the full-length Zoom Air unit contains thousands of high-strength fibers connecting the top and bottom to provide responsive cushioning, and for the first time, the Zoom Air unit is designed with strategically placed notches in the forefoot and heel to intuitively flex with the foot’s movement. Finally, a stabilizing high-wrapping midsole and unique heel design — inspired by a sabertooth’s fangs — reflect the athlete insight that went into the building of the shoe.
The KD8 launches June 23rd on NIKEiD, followed by a patriotic 4th of July colorway on June 27 in limited quantities. A matte red edition, inspired by Durant’s custom Camaro, will hit stores on July 11.
