Parley for the Oceans is dedicated to raising awareness about the disastrous state of our oceans, and the environmental organization regularly collaborates on conservation projects. The latest such endeavor finds adidas teaming up with Parley for the Oceans in its communication efforts, as well as its Ocean Plastic Program that aims to halt aquatic plastic pollution. In honor of the collaboration, adidas and Parley have created their first prototype product, a concept sneaker made entirely of yarns and filaments reclaimed from ocean waste and illegal deep-sea gillnets, retrieved from the coast of West Africa by Parley partner Sea Shepherd. The shoe offers a first look at the kind of consumer-ready ocean plastic products that will be revealed later this year. It debuted today at the United Nations, where Parley held an event on climate change — entitled “Oceans. Climate. Life.” — convened by the President of the General Assembly.
