GQ sat down yesterday with legendary streetwear pioneer Hiroshi Fujiwara, who was in attendance at NYC's 21 Mercer for the launch of the black and red colorways of his fragment design x Nike Air Trainer 1 Mid collaboration. Among the highlights from the conversation: Fujiwara dismissed the notion that he's the "godfather of streetwear" and identified Shawn Stussy as a peer, who, like him, is adept at blending various cultures in his designs. Asked about that difficulty buyers experience getting their hands on his sneaker collaborations, Fujiwara disclosed that "it's up to Nike to determine how much they want to make," and it's the plague of re-sellers that makes matters even worse.
