Even in one of the most extreme forms of motorsport, since the 1960's, McLaren has established itself as an almost unbeatable force. In honor of the brand's inaugural 1966 racing season, McLaren Special Operations has created a limited run of 650S Can-Am Spiders that draw inspiration from the race cars of the golden age of motorsport paired with today's advanced technology. Just like its ancestor, the 2016 edition wears an appealing red and black colorway, with a carbon fiber retractable hardtop, front splitter, rear bumper, and door blades. Today's edition also arrives with bespoke forged alloy wheels that feature a glossy black finish and a diamond cut rim, which hug Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. There aren't any changes under the hood, but the twin-turbo V8 3.8-liter engine with 650 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque is joined with a specially developed quad exhaust system made of polished stainless steel. Inside the cabin, the cars get leather and Alcantara upholstery, carbon fiber accents, and a dedication plaque mounted on the driver's door. All 50 units will be sold globally beginning next spring, with a starting price of £255,850.
