While this inexplicably menacing image may conjure images of Skynet, adidas' new Speedfactory offers something far more benign: automated manufacturing using intelligent, robotic technology to bring sporting goods to consumers faster than traditional methods. adidas is currently setting up the pilot Speedfactory program in Ansbach, Germany, with the goal to release 500 pairs of a concept running shoe in the first half of 2016. In addition to enhanced productivity, the Speedfactory network is positioned to have a positive impact on the environment, cutting down on shipping emissions while also drastically reducing the use of adhesives.
