Kobe Bryant has long been considered an athlete who obsesses over the details, and it's a distinctive trait that spills over into his signature Nike line. The 17-time All-Star worked closely with Nike Innovation Director Eric Avar to create the new Kobe 11, which at first glance appears to be a familiar Flyknit build, but a closer look reveals pearlescent fibers made with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) yarns, delivering superior strength without added weight. Speaking of the Flyknit upper, it attaches directly to the shoe's outsole shell, which features a pioneering tread and traction pattern. Additional benefits include a drop-in Nike Zoom Air midsole in the heel and Nike Lunarlon in the forefoot, along with siping grooves in the midsole for movement and natural flex. Personal touches include a graphic representation of Achilles on the right heel, twinned with four stitch marks on the left symbolizing the four feet of thread used in the Mamba's s 2013 Achilles surgery. The introductory Nike Kobe 11 "Achilles Heel" colorway launches January 9. As indicated by the teaser, Nike Basketball will take to Periscope today at approximately 2 pm PST, with Kobe himself presenting his new shoe.
