We got a first look yesterday at the Nike KD9 through a miniature figurine, and now the latest iteration of Kevin Durant's signature shoe is revealed in full, representing the latest stage in the evolution of performance basketball footwear. Designed by Leo Chang, the low-cut silhouette has an upper built with Flyknit, engineered down to the pixel for maximum containment, arranged in a distinct honeycomb pattern to accommodate multidimensional movement and Durant's lateral quickness. The shoe's Zoom Air unit, developed over three years of advanced wear testing, is filled with fibers that compress and spring back with each step. The midsole is minimized to enhance the feel of the Zoom Air unit, which measures 16 millimeters thick at the heel and eventually narrows to 10 millimeters at the forefoot, resulting in maximum impact protection while amplifying the bounce of Zoom Air. Finally, an articulated anatomical flex groove runs through the bottom of the forefoot to maximize natural transitions, while heel notches add stability to lateral movements.
Look for the Nike KD9 to hit stores beginning June 20.
