At today's media event in Cupertino, Apple announced the 4-inch iPhone SE, as well as another flagship device shrunken down to size, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. Essentially a smaller version of the iPad Pro released last year, this new model weights in at less than a pound and packs a 9.7-inch display that's 25 percent brighter and 40 percent less reflective than the screen found on the iPad Air 2. A new technology, "True Tone Display," is said to measure the surrounding color temperature of ambient light and adjusts the display accordingly.
In terms of specs, the new model is similar to it's larger counterpart, featuring the A9X processor and four-speaker setup, supplying sound twice as loud as the iPad Air 2. There's a 12-megapixel rear camera with focus pixels, dual-tone flash and Live Photos. The front-facing camera features the Retina Flash introduced on the iPhone last year. A smaller Smart Keyboard is available for the new size, and Apple's pencil stylus is compatible.
The 9.7-inch iPad Pro will be available in space grey, silver, gold and rose gold. Pricing begins at $599 for the 32GB model, $749 for the 128GB version and $899 for the 256GB model. (Those prices are for the Wi-Fi-only models; LTE options generally cost $130 more.) Preorders begin March 24, and the official launch date is set for March 31st.
