For Nike, Kyrie Irving Is Positioned to Take Over for Kobe Bryant

According to Nike designer Leo Chang, Nike Basketball's footwear lineup is broken up into three different categories, each lining up with the on-court playing styles of the brand's current triumvirate of signature athletes: Explosive Power (LeBron James), Dynamic Versatility (Kevin Durant), and Electric Quickness (Kobe Bryant). And while the Kobe line will go on even as the Mamba is set to walk away from the game, Nike already has a candidate in mind to take his place: one Kyrie Irving, whose on-court abilities exemplify explosive speed in all directions. The Nike Kyrie 2 is designed to exploit the point guard's repertoire of explosive crossovers, sharp cuts, and spin moves, highlighted by an outsole rounded on both the medial and lateral sides, allowing the sneaker to "bank" like a motorcycle.
