What with its many unspoken rules and the ridiculous controversy surrounding bat flips, Major League Baseball is far from the most progressive league in the modern sports landscape. We can't forget, however, that MLB integrated way back in 1947, with the historic signing of Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers. This season finds adidas Baseball celebrating Jackie Robinson Day, April 15th, with special-editions cleats paying homage to the sports trailblazer. adidas designers took the adizero Afterburner 2, the lightest cleat in the game at 8.7oz., and the new Energy Boost Icon 2, featuring revolutionary Boost technology, and created special edition cleats that pay homage to Jackie Robinson. The Afterburner 2 is adorned with a hand-drawn sketch of Robinson stealing second base, while both cleats incorporate heather wool materials evoking the wool uniforms and caps of the 1940s. Additionally, newspaper style headlines showcasing Jackie's accomplishments are featured throughout the upper. The spikes won't be available to the public; instead, they'll be gifted to adidas athletes like Carlos Correa and Kris Bryant, and the UCLA Bruins will wear them on the field on April 15.
