New Balance's 3-D Printed Running Shoes Will Set You Back $400
New Balance unveils the future of running with the Zante Generate, the world's first high performance running shoe with a full-length 3D printed midsole. Printed in the brand's factory in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the midsole is made in collaboration with 3D System, utilizing the company's newly-developed laser sintering powder, DuraForm TPU Elastomer. It's converted into solid cross-sections, layer by layer, using a laser, resulting in an optimal balance of flexibility, strength, weight and durability, encased in an intricate honeycomb midsole structure. 44 pairs released today as a nod to New Balance owner and chairman Jim Davis, who purchased the company (44 years ago) on Patriot’s Day in 1972. Priced at $400, the shoe is available exclusively at New Balance's Experience Store on 583 Boylston Street in Boston.
