Almost every facet of the professional sports landscape here in the U.S. is sponsored or advertised, ranging from lineup introductions to timeout breaks. On-field and on-court uniforms had been the lone expansion, but that's set to change with today's announcement from the NBA. In a development that Commissioner Adam Silver had previously called "inevitable," the NBA's board of governors has approved a three-year pilot program that allows teams to sell off a 2.5-inch-by-2.5-inch bit of real estate on their jerseys. The program kicks off with the 2017-18 season, which is also the first season that Nike will begin making official NBA uniforms, taking the reins from adidas.
