For this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, BMW unveils the 2002 Hommage concept, the latest in a series of concepts based on classic BMW models. Released 50 years ago, the 2002 was a boxy sedan, and one of the first production cars to be offered with a turbocharged engine. In terms of design, the original 2002 was distinguished by its compact proportions, upright greenhouse and forward-tilted "sharknose" front fascia. Those elements return on the 2002 Hommage concept, resulting in a fusion of the original 2002 with the modern 2 Series. Details include a horizontal strip of carbon fiber as a nod to the chrome trim on the original 2002, as well as gold reflectors on the headlights, denoting the 2002's 50th anniversary.
