20 years ago, Nike launched the Air Rift, a unique sneaker-sandal hybrid created with insight from Kenyan distance runners, who traditionally trained barefoot in the country's Great Rift Valley trench. The silhouette's signature split-toe construction allowed for natural articulation between the wearer's first and second toes, while an anatomical last acted as a stable platform that enabled a more natural stride and an Air-Sole heel unit delivered cushioning. Over the years, the shoe has inspired innovations like Nike Free, and now it's undergone an update of its own, resulting in the introduction the Air Rift Breathe, featuring an upper formed of breathable mesh. The Nike Air Rift Breathe launches June 9th in four introductory colors for both men and women.
