On the heels of Louis Vuitton's collaboration with fragment design visionary Hiroshi Fujiwara, the luxury brand has joined forces with another design luminary. This time it's famed industrial designer Marc Newson, who's reworked the Louis Vuitton trunk to maximize space while reducing weight. He's achieved the feat by moving the arms of the telescopic handle to the sides of the case, where they provide additional structure to the edges. Additionally, specially made screws replace traditional riveting (which allows for later repair work if needed) and a single zipper that's secured with a TSA-approved locking mechanism. Three sizes will be available: mini (19.6 x 13.7 x 7.8 in), cabin (21.6 x 15.3 x 8.2 in) and maxi (26.7 x 18.1 x 10.2 in), with the smallest weighing in at just 6 pounds. Offered in Monogram Canvas, Monogram Eclipse, Damier Graphite, Taiga leather and seven colors of Epi leather, the trunks will be available in Louis Vuitton stores on July 15th, and online at louisvuitton.com on September 30th.
