Today saw Nike announcing the release details of the 2016 Nike Mag, the futuristic power-lacing sneaker that first saw the light of day during the classic '80s film, Back to the Future II. The Swoosh revealed that there are just 89 pairs in existence, and almost all of them are being made available to residents of the U.S. and Canada through a simple raffle system. Here's how it works: purchase a raffle ticket for $10 through your Nike+ account, and buy as many tickets as you want, as it'll (marginally) increase your chance of winning, but even better, the proceeds go to a great cause, The Michael J. Fox Foundation's efforts to find a cure for Parkinson's. The Draw is open till October 11, and the lucky winners will get the good news on October 17.
As for the shoe itself, the 2016 Nike Mag is a faithful reproduction of the silver-screen original, equipped with an individually responsive system, called Adaptive Fit, that senses the wearer's foot and tightens or loosens accordingly. In honor of today's announcement, Nike held a special invite-only event earlier this evening, with attendees getting a close-up look at the sneaker-cum-cultural icon. They even had the chance to try on a pair.
