This week at the Biofabricate Conference in New York, adidas presented the Futurecraft Biofabric prototype, featuring an upper made entirely with Biosteel fiber, a material that replicates natural silk. Nature-based and completely biodegradable, Biosteel was developed by the German biotech company AMSilk, offering a unique combination of properties that are crucial in performance: it's 15% lighter than conventional synthetic fibers, and it's among the strongest fully natural materials available today.

Biosteel fiber also continues adidas' recent forays into sustainable footwear, including the brand's recent partnership with Parley for the Oceans. Similar to the Parley project, adidas is expected to team up with AMSilk on the use of Biosteel Fiber in performance products on a larger scale.
