Having evolved from a single Nike Air Force 1 to a comprehensive assortment of products, Nike's annual Nike Black History Month (BHM) collection has also altered its message, shifting the focus from the honoring of African-American athletes to a wider celebration of Black heritage and the power of sport to effect positive social change.
For 2017, Nike's BHM collection features decorative marbling, a design motif that blends black and white shades to reference the strength of harmonious movement, along with gold accents to evoke the power of unity. On the footwear side, there are three signature basketball offerings -- the LeBron 14, Kyrie 3 and KD9 -- along with Serena Williams' Nike Flare, the Nike Lunar Epic and Jordan Trunner. Classic lifestyle silhouettes include the Air Force 1 Hi for men, AF1 Upstep for women and special-edition Air Jordan 1s for men and young athletes. On the apparel side, look for the Nike MVP jacket and pant, as well as the EQUALITY Tee for men and women. The tee is part of Nike's ongoing commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and to learn more about the brand's initiatives in line with those objectives -- as well as to purchase the tee -- go to nike.com/equality.
The 2017 Nike BHM collection releases February 16th at nike.com and select retailers in North America. The Jordan Brand's trio of shoes launch February 11.
