Back in 2012, artist Tom Sachs collaborated with Nike on a shoe for his art installation, SPACE PROGRAM: Mars. Made with the same fabric used in the airbags from the Mars Excursion Rover, the Nike Mars Yard was discovered to have fatal flaw: observers noted the material "breaks like a paper clip" if it's creased too much in the same spot. Sachs and Nike went back to the drawing board to introduce the new and improved Mars Yard 2.0, now featuring a mesh upper. Its launch coincides with "Space Camp," which Nike and Sachs are kicking off in New York City on June 8. Retailing for $200, the kicks are expected to go live the same day at nikecraft.com.
