Through his partnership with Reebok, which dates back to 2014, Kendrick Lamar spearheaded the modern trend of rappers with their own sneaker endorsements, all while transmitting a message of peace and unity. Over the weekend, Kendrick took to social media to let his fans know that he’d left Reebok to join Nike, posting an image in which he’s shod in a pair of Nike Cortez. Considering the retro runner’s connection to the city of Los Angeles, the move makes plenty of sense, and a special-edition Cortez Shark Low “Showstopper” was launched in honor of the new partnership. Finished in an all-white colorway, the shoe is already sold out at Nike SNKRS, but it’s probably safe to assume there are plenty of more releases on tap from the new creative partners. Stay tuned.
