In revealing its new collection, dubbed NIKE Advanced Apparel Exploration (A.A.E.) 1.0, NikeLab showcases the technology that went into one of the most foundational garments in anyone's wardrobe: the T-shirt. The A.A.E. version of the simple garment represents a fundamental shift in terms of the the conventional process used to make a typical T-shirt. NikeLab utilized computational design to merge a series of body motion maps, with a special focus placed on temperature and humidity fluctuations in modern urban environments -- spanning the subway, street, office and club -- that led to additional digital body maps influenced by cling, airflow, sweat and heat.
Apparel designers and Nike Flyknit engineers then worked together to collect and merge the data from all motion and temperature maps, generating a singular and complex data set that was translated into a visual language -- namely, a single-layer, seamless knit that delivers ventilation where needed and coverage where desired.
The tee anchors the nine-piece NikeLab NIKE A.A.E. 1.0 collection, a design-led, data-informed system of apparel that's made to meet the all-day requirements of the modern urban dweller. Expect the NikeLab NIKE A.A.E. 1.0 collection to launch September 14th at NikeLab and select retailers.
